I've been going after this trail by passages rather than as a whole. I have completed over 90% 0f the trail with about 65 miles left on the north end of the state. Unfortunately, the wildfires of 2020 have shut down much of the northern end of the trail.
- The John Muir Trail
-
The John Muir Trail (JMT) is a 218 mile trail that runs from Yosemite National Park to the peak of Mount Whitney, the highest point in the continental US.
I had the opportunity to take this amazing trail on during the summer of 2015. Our permits had us going in over Bishop Pass and heading north to Yosemite, then swinging back down to go over Bishop Pass again and exiting over Mount Whitney. Including amazing side trips, we walked 275 miles over about 24 days.
- The Uinta Highline Trail

The Uinta Highline Trail is a 104 mile trail that runs across Utah's Uinta Mountains. The trail is a high altitude paradise with alpine lakes and tundra, Mountain goats, moose and marmots. Along this trail you'll find Dead Horse Pass, North Pole Pass and King's Peak at 13.5K is Utah's highest summit.
Me and my buddy Pete did this trail on the summer of 2020. Starting on the east end and walking west we ran into helicoters and a horse train sent into evacuate the wilderness behind us. It was on fire! We chose to walk out.
